Curator's comments
Cook states that although the scales are typical of Clazomenian black figure pottery, they are not exclusive to Clazomenian pottery and therefore, the origin of this specific sherd cannot be confirmed although Clazomenian scales tend to be long (Cook 1952, 143, n. 102, no. 7). For similar scales, see Boston 86.555.
