Description
Rim and cul sherd (mended from two fragments) of Chian pottery chalice; white slip; interior glazed streaky black (partly fired red); near top, three added red bands; two more on floor; exterior: rim reserved; simple guilloche pattern on cul between brown bands; inscription on exterior.

Curator's comments
According to Lemos, the sherd belongs within the Wild Goat Style. Whilst the interior decoration and the guilloche in the handle zone are consistent with the Wild Goat Style, the largely reserved upper body is not typical of that style, but rather of the style of the patterned chalices. The sherd, as demonstrated from the lack of interior decoration, is early.
