- Curator's comments
- See Bailey 1969,37-38 and Fourrier and Kiely for details of the discovery of this item and the associated finds from Kition-Bamboula.
This antefix must have decorated a large building in the vicinity of Bamboula, such as the 'Bâtiment Sud' or one of the shipsheds discovered by the French expedition to Kition. The former building may have been repaired sometime early in the third century BC. It may be compared with marble architectural examples from Paros and Priene (see Fourrier in Fourrier and Kiely 2012, 293; Callot 2003, 142-3; see Calvet 1993 and Yon 2006 for surveys of the site).
