Pottery: black-figure neck-amphora. Rough style; no accessories. No bands of ornament beneath the designs.
(a) Contest of Heracles and Apollo for the tripod: Heracles to right, with lion's skin and short chiton, club in right hand, is carrying off the tripod in left hand, and looking back at Apollo, who seizes the legs of the tripod; he has long tresses wreathed with laurel, himation, and bow and quiver at back. Behind Heracles is inscribed: Ηρα[κ]λέο[υς; behind Apollo: 'Από[λλων]ος.
(b) Heracles strangling the Nemean lion: Heracles to right, nude and bearded, with sword at side, grasps the lion round the throat and tears its mouth open; the lion stands erect with one hind-leg raised against Heracles' left leg. On the right is Iolaos to left, nude and bearded, holding Heracles' club. On the left is a nude youth moving away to right, looking back. In the field are suspended Heracles' bow and quiver.
