This amphora was probably excavated at the same time as 1805,0703.219 in the year 1772, as mentioned in T. Combe (1810) A Description of the collection of ancient terracottas in the British Museum with engravings. London: p. 1-2 - where 1805,0703.219 is said to have been excavated in the Baths of Titus in Rome, together with many others in the year 1772. Since both were in the collection of Charles Townley, they are likely to both have come from there. The baths then called the Baths of Titus are actually the Baths of Trajan.
