This collection was in the process of being thrown away by Winchester College when it was noticed in a skip, retrieved by a master and subsequently sold to the British Museum. All efforts to trace who might have made the collection from Old Boy lists etc were unsuccessful. Some of the pieces (including this one) are labelled, most labels giving a Collingwood Bay provenance, and it is provisonally assumed that the bulk of the collection derives from that area.
