On 20th May 2014 Julian Hume from the Natural History Museum visited four Hawaiian capes in the Oceanic collection. He identified the feathers on this cape; the white feathers and the long black feathers are Polynesian chicken feathers. The red feathers are predominantly i'iwi (Vestiaria Coccinea) but with some apapane (Himatione Sanguinea). The shorter yellow feathers are mamo (Drepanis Pacifica) and the longer, plume like feathers are likely to be o'o feathers (Moho nobilis). There are thought to be over 100 small pieces of bird (i'iwi) skin on this cape.
