Wooden standing figure, sawn off below feet, with partial male facial tattoo, small topknot, chin poorly cut underneath, plain body, crude hands on stomach. Scratched on back of head: ‘X.C. [?] 1837’.
Provenance: Yorkshire Philosophical Society Museum.
Comments: Bay of Plenty, 1837(?) (RN); probably Waikato, 1850–60 (DRS).
Perhaps ‘a New Zealand Grave God, from Dr Gibson’s sale’ purchased in 1880 (Eth. Doc.1912).
