- John Gould Veitch made a collection of Solomon Islands artefacts as botanist on HMS Curacoa in 1865 - on the same voyage as Julius Brenchley (qv) - which his brother Harry gave to the British Museum in 1887.

Dala is the most common Solomon Islands name for this ornament (resembling the kapkap of Papua New Guinea) which in former times was always worn on the head.
