Composite axe, patiti : European style, wooden handle, iron blade with illegible stamp on one side; scratched on handle: ‘TVMARV’ (Tumaru); rectangular hole for suspension cord near proximal end.

An axe given by Captain Cook to the New Zealanders on it is a stamp of this form … now obliterated on the handle is scratched TVMARV.’
