- British Museum registration slip, written in 1891?:
Cloth-beater or mallet of hard brown wood: the handle is of roughly finsihed round section; the rest is of square section grooved on two faces with fine longitudinal grooves; on the third face with more spaced grooves between which are short diagonal incised lines forming a herring-bone pattern: on the fourth face there are longitudinal grooves, the ridges between which are notched at intervals of about 1/8 of an inch.
