- Acquisition notes
- Oceania (New Guinea) material from Macgregor Collection apparently acquired by BM in 1897, by uncertain means, and not listed or formally registered at the time. Possibly acquired with, or intended for incorporation in, the Franks Bequest (1897), or for use as "duplicates" for the Christy Collection. See note by H.J.Braunholtz in BM Ethnography Department's Christy Register (1894-1897), p.129. Some of the material was subsequently drawn on a series of unnumbered "registration" Slips (Oceania "No Number" series) to which object numbers were later given by CDMS staff in 1983 (this item is one of eighteen arrows N/N.210), and some was later incorporated into the Oceania "Found Unnumbered" Q-Registers. These were superseded when all identified Macgregor material from Oceania was placed together during 1990-1996 and formally registered (drawn on new registration Slips) under the collection notation "MCG" (allocated by Ethno.Dept. staff together with object number sequence).
See also Ethnography Department Eth.Docs.1033 and 1095 for biographical details (but NB, these do not include any original lists of objects), and correspondence with M.O'Hanlon (Ethno.Dept. staff) from M.Quinnell (Queensland Museum) during 1996-1997. (AMD,9/1999).
