- Description

Shield, oval, flat back with handle hollowed out at the middle, flush with surface, convex front thinning away to nothing at the ends. Middle of back is covered with black gum, ends are scored with lines, and coloured with a reddish-brown pigment; a border of natural colour of the wood left all round the edge. Front is similarly engraved and covered with reddish-brown pigment; dents in clubs from 'blows from a dentated club'.
