- Curator's comments
- Christy Slip "4279" gives length 6 ft., width 1 ft, 11 in. Christy Register "4279" notes "Hawaii; 2 Slips; no.137" and gives "length 49 in., width 23 in" as well as referring to the Slip and 6 ft. dimension. The 2 foot difference is probably the section removed and stored in Solander Case.
"137" may refer to Solander Case number for removed section, or to "JEP 137" - a number pencilled, together with "X 15" onto a supplementary Slip describing Christy 4279, bound with others as "Additional notes and sketches of Hawaiian objects. Sorted, collated and bound at Drayton, 1940." "JEP" appears to refer to J.Edge Partington.
The Christy Slip is also annotated with a comment from W.T.Brigham: "Portion of a dancing pau, left at first process of beating, so as to be 'cellular' for coolness."
