Model group, made out of painted pottery, in the form of a nativity scene (nacimiento); brown circular base painted with white decorations on edge; pottery shed at back, roof painted orange, inside of shed white; two front support posts of shed decorated with orange pottery flowers and green pottery leaves with white stripes. Inside shed, left, Mary: blue hood, yellow halo, pink face, hands and feet; black eyebrows and pupil, white eye, black line over eye; white dress with black trim; hands held together in front. Right, Joseph: yellow halo, black hair, beard and moustache; pink hands, face and feet; black eyebrows and pupil, white eye, black line over eye; green robe with white markings; red sash with white border. Centre, baby Jesus: pink skin; black eyebrows and pupil, white eye, black line over eye; red lips. In front of Jesus, dog: yellow; long ears and tail; black eyebrows and pupil, red mouth. Around edge of base, left, Wise Man: gold crown, black hair, black eyebrows and pupil, white eye, black line over eye; red lips; grey beard; green cape with white border; brown gown with white markings; gold cup in both hands. Next, Devil taking picture with camera: black with white markings; white eyes and teeth. Next Wise Man: gold crown; grey hair and beard; black eyebrows and pupil, white eye, black line over eye; red lips; orange cape; green robe with black markings; yellow beard with black markings. Right, Wise Man: brown hood with white border; grey beard; black eyebrows and pupil, white eye, black line over eye; red lips; yellow cape with red border; blue robe with white markings; black cup with brown inside held in both hands. Large yellow pomegranate with red accents on outside hangs from centre of roof.

- Curator's comments
- This nativity scene was entered for a concourso (contest) for Christmas 1985 organized by the Museo Nacional de Artes e Industrias Populares, so they represent a non-typical response to the brief set by the organizers. The makers have used traditional materials and techniques. The people of Ocumicho believe Jesus was born out of a pomegranate (granada in Spanish).
