- In a letter of 27/3/1979, antiques dealer Peter Hempson reported that he purchased the object at a country auction some years before its sale at Christie's but could not recall the details. Sold by PH lot 121 Christies 'English and Continental Oak', King Street: '121. A Scandinavian carved and painted carrier, the upright decorated with birds and stylised flowers - 31 in (79 cm) high, 18th Century'. It had been turned into a umbrella stand with mahogany fittings, and was displayed before the sale at the top of the stairs in King Street
