Globular or round wooden rattle carved in two more or less symetrical sections, each with a compressed face, deeply carved with great vigour: the mouth oval with a tongue peeping out from the teeth, full nose, deep cheek lines, deeply carved eyes, and broad swelling eyebrows. each face is compressed in ridged circle, the rest of the rattle carved with flat planes painted blue. The handle is bound with a skin thong, which ends in a knob finial to prevent slippage; the two halves are held together in four places with thong ties; the rattle inside is still present. The rattle was carved with great delicacy, and shows considerable use and patination. One face still has traces of red paint.

- Lady Franklin visited Sitka on her way to the Arctic in search of her husband. An account has been published, and is in the departmental library. (JCK,20/6/1995; plus additional description etc.).
