- Freer label: "158. Mortar basket used by different Chenook tribes in N. Oregon. Set on a smooth stone or one slightly concave. It was held by one hand and the seed poured in was ground with a stout pestle held by the other hand (Got of Ind. using it by RWS.)". // Ethnography Department Christy Collection registration Slip: "Bucket shaped basket without bottom, brown with geometric ornament in straw colour round the sides. Mortar Basket. Chinook Tribes. Western Oregon.". Additional note: "This looks like a mortar from N.W. California, Hupa or Yurok. EG 17-4-[19]52".
