This fanged figure would once have been brightly painted. Pointed jaguar teeth mark his relationship with the spirit and supernatural world. He is armed with a shield and club, representing strength and a fearless nature. Such sculptures guarded the final resting place of high-status individuals from harmful spirits and enemies.
