- April Churchill:
Snail's trail design (st'alaak_agaa) on the bottom. Diagonal straight lines are shaman design. Stepped bands are 'cresting wave' design. Thinner, dark stepped design could be the raven's tail.
Baskets like this were used by shamans to store medicine.
Haida did not decorate the outside of baskets in this way - but this decoration is concealed under the cover.
