- Curator's comments
- This object may not be part of the Squier and Davis collection. The label bearing William Blackmore's initials, dated 1871, attached to the object and lack of marking to suggest it was excavated or collected by Squier or Davis, makes this more likely to have been part of an early collection by Blackmore from his time in America. This would later enter Blackmore's museum in Salisbury, the collection from which was ultimately acquired by the British Museum.
