- Curator's comments
- See Eth.Doc.1305. and also 1931 handlist "Specimens from the Blackmore Museum" (Ethnography Department documentation archive). See Edward T.Stevens "Flint Chips", London, 1870, p.497.
NB: Number "S.1305" is not annotated on p.497 of Ethnography Dept. copy of "Flint Chips", but 1931 handlist entry for 1305 gives "blackened and calcined pipes etc.", similar to e.g. numbers 1292 to 1296 which ARE annotated in "Flint Chips" (as "S.2092" etc., in error, "calcined stone".)
Label from original Squier and Davis collection present on object, but illegible.
BM Ethnography Dept. registration mark "S" (within circle) used for 1931 Salisbury Museum collection.
Found stored in linked plastic sachets (created at unknown date by Ethnography Dept. staff) with overall Register number "S.1305" on associated Etho. Dept. Tag. Originally recorded as "group of fragments"; part-letters (a to bi) allocated 6/2000 during project to create individual records.
