- Description

Skin thong, with a flat thimble hook at one end, and a carved toggle in the form of a bear, wolf or dog head, both of walrus ivory; may originally have come from a sewing kit. The hook is engraved with two concentric circles, and lines at the hole pierced for suspension. The mammal head is engraved with eyes, mouth teeth and neck, all engravings filled with black.

- Curator's comments
- The registration slip gives an old collection number '168' and title 'Chilcat belt'. Although of Yupik Eskimo origin from Alaska, this may have been collected from the Tlingit, who may of course have worn it.
