- Curator's comments
- Alcoholic liquors were one of the items which were used to barter for enslaved people; special distilleries were set up in Liverpool for this purpose. These gin bottls are part of the multi-media artwork 'La Bouche du Roi'.The formal structure of the artwork is based on the print of the Liverpool slave ship the Brookes which was commissioned in 1789 by the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade.
