Shoulder purse ("alabe na rataya"); made of leather; ovoid piece of red leather, folded in half and sewn up sides to make pouch, with flap folded over top; decorated with geometric tooling and black painted border; edge of flap cut with serrated edge; red braided leather strap sewn into each upper corner; "A690 L23 183" written on inside.

- Af1999,16.1 to 47 was purchased from David Heathcote. The purchase book records that it is "a collection of 47 items of decorated leatherware made by Alhaji Balarabe of Zaria, of the Hausa people, northern Nigeria, during the 1970s." Heathcote was working in Zaria during these years and bought the works directly from the maker.
