Adire: two panels of imported European white calico cotton, dyed indigo in Nigeria using stitch resist to form five bands with leaf shapes set against dark indigo running along the cloth, separated by four undecorated strips in light indigo. The pattern name was recorded by W.B.Fagg as 'Amerika' (who noted that this was not a Yoruba word).
