- Curator's comments
- See Ethdoc 97 - Notes on the Collection. This is presumably:
'4. Children's toys. Baka children's material culture, like that of the adults', is sparse. Children's play is largely based on imitation of the grown ups (the boys hunt with bows and arrows ... and the girls build miniature mongolus. There is also a range of games which correspond to European children's playground games, with songs and actions ... The five specimens of toys which have been collected here were all made by Baka children out of the pith of raffia branches and show ... considerable powers of observation. Toys like these are made in a few minutes and are abandoned after a few hours ...'
'4.1 Model radio - note the tuning mechanism which moves the needle.'
