Aajukumobibi (black guinea corn), from which the black dye used in preparation of fibres for mat-making is obtained. Whether the two kinds of guinea-corn are separate species or sub-species, or whether the leaves otherwise producing red dye are treated in some way, such as by ‘saddening’ it with iron-rich mud, to produce black, I am not certain.
