- Curator's comments
- (comment by John Picton on At19711,09.6 to 13). Acquired as Vere, Nigeria.
All are certainly from north-east Nigeria, however, Jim Wade, TTC Mubi, who is studying the brass ware of that area, says that they are from the tribes of the Mandara Hills, on both sides of the Nigeria / Cameroon border (not to be confused with a tribe elsewhere in Cameroon called the Mandara). The pipes are probably from the Mudi area (or perhaps Michika) and could be Higi, Kapsiki, Fali, Gude or Njainyi. The women's public aprons (Af1971,09.10 to 13) are almost certainly Higi or Kapsioki from the Michika area.
