- According to the accessions register, the object is a “Grass fibre, coiled basket.” The register and a printed label inscribed “Tetraria punctoria CB. Cl. (Buekia punctoria Nees.) SOUTH AFRICA. 1865. Dr. Burchell’s Collection. Miss Burchell.” The register further inscribed “[ZULU.]”.

- Af1960,20.1 to 246 is a large collection of African material transferred to the British Museum by the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in 1960. Most of these works had been given to Kew in the XIXc, and the recorded provenances refer to those who gave the objects to Kew together with the date of acquisition by Kew.
Burchell made his collections in South Africa between 1810 and 1815, and they were presented to Kew in 1865 by his sister, following his death in 1863.
