Rectangular leather bag with a triangular flap decorated with eight plaited strands. The flap has also been decorated with geometric patterns formed using knives and stamps to create impressions. The body of the bag consisting of plain leather decorated with four triangular patches consisting of dyed brown and green leather. The sides of the bag consist of brown leather which has been painted with geometric patterns in black paint. The bags strap/sling is made from two plaited leather lengths (brown).

See C Partridge, ‘Cross River Natives’,1905, p.185, ‘The beautiful leather-work done in Northern Nigeria is unknown in the Cross River. Any specimens of it found there have been introduced by Hausa elephant-hunters or by Government soldiers and their wives.’
