Hide circular shield with notches in edge and conical boss; hide handle stitched in behind boss & twisted leather lanyard; probably belonged to Chief.

Hide circular shield with notches in edge & conical boss; hide handle stitched in behind boss & twisted leather lanyard.
"Spears, throwing knives or rhinocerous [sic] hide shield collected by Lt. Col. S.T. Grigg, DSO, MC. in 1921, from S.W.Darfur (S.Sudan) when in the Waziristan force during the attack on NYALA by natives under Ali Dinar.
Campaign took place mainly in Nuba mountains & spears most probably belonged to a minor Nuba Chief.
