- Acquisition notes
- Af1949,24.1 to 46 were given by Mrs A Milne, and were recorded in the Register as having been 'collected by the donor's late husband, Dr Arthur D. Milne, between c.1890 and 1920 in East Africa'. He was a senior medical officer (see his biography), based in Uganda from 1898-1904, and in Kenya thereafter until his retirement in 1921. The objects have no recorded specific provenances. Dr Milne was involved in military action in his early years in Uganda, and this must have produced the large numbers of spears and arrows in his possession. For this reason it has been assumed that the objects were collected in Uganda during the period 1898-1904, unless there is evidence to the contrary.
