Fan formed of parallel wooden slats, over which red, yellow, green and white wool has been pleated to form a pattern of squares separated by lines with loose ends below. The fan handle is of wood, covered in leather and subsequently sewn to the fan panel, of which the edge is also covered with leather.

- The fan is from a collection (Af1939,07.1 to 50) formed by the donor, H M Brice Smith, in northern Nigeria between 1909 and 1934. The acquisition register records this as being a 'Hausa fan, northern Nigeria, collected 1915'.
