' ... Pottery exhibits from the Ulanga Valley, Tanganyika Territory. This is presumably Culwick No. 1 - 'Nos. 1-6 inclusive and 13-14 were all made by the same woman (Mbena) aided by a pupil who kneaded the lump of clay to the right consistency and roughly hollowed it out with her hands, like No. 11 which might become either No. 1 or No. 2 in the hands of the expert. The pupil also did most of the polishing with graphite. She did not take any part in shaping the lid. No. 3. ...'
