Sample, a large single piece cut from a larger cloth made from European white calico cotton that has been dyed in indigo. The cloth was folded and stitched to produce the stripes along the borders, and tied around a pebble to form the near-circular shapes that are regularly spaced in three rows along the centre.

- Af1934,0307.354 to 386 are a supplement to Beving’s ‘series illustrating the technology of dyeing’. C.A.Beving recorded this sample as having come from Senegal. The quality of the stitching along the borders is remarkable.
