- Description
-
Indigo wrapper, formed from eleven strips of cloth, hand-woven from hand-spun white cotton. The strips were dyed in two different groups: six were dyed a uniform indigo, while the other five were tie-dyed so as to leave ten white rectangles along each strip, separated by dark indigo. The strips were then hand-sewn together in alternating order. The warp ends have not been hemmed.

- Curator's comments
- Part of the group of 83 cloths dyed with designs in indigo in the Beving collection (Af1934,0307.221 to 303). For comment see Af1934,0307.221. C.A.Beving offered no suggestion as to where this was made. Af1934,0307.229 in the Beving collection gives a very similar effect, but is made from cut-up European calico rather than locally-spun cotton.
