- Acquisition notes
- Af1928,0509.1 to 113 is a collection of objects from British Somaliland formed by and purchased from Lt. Col. P E Allden. The register records that it is a "Series, including specimens from the 'Mad Mullah' [Sayyid Mohammed Abdullah Hassan] and his followers obtained in 1923 from the Somali". The register contains notes of when and where some of the objects were acquired, and these dates range between 1918 and 1922. The comments recorded with the objects show that he was an interested and informed observer of Somali life and artefacts. A few items are recorded as having been captured after military action in February 1920 (nos.62, 66, 79-81, and 92); the other recorded acquisitions were purchased.
