Quilted coat (jibba) worn as armour, made of cotton with kapok ? stuffing. Coat has straight sleeves, the body with slit at front and back, upright collar with frontal slit. Outer surface composed of appliqued panels in white cotton, with indigo-, light blue- and red-dyed cotton cloth stitched through kapok and lining using running stitch. Lined inside with white cotton cloth.

- Af1912,1209.1 to 11 are part of a larger collection given by Lady Gatacre from the collection of her late husband, the soldier Sir William Forbes Gatacre, who was involved in the Omdurman campaign in 1898 and the Boer War in 1899, from which these objects probably come.
