- Acquisition notes
- Af1859,0908.1 to 99 is a collection of jewellery and clothing made in South Africa which was purchased by the BM from Hugh Cuming. All the objects are recorded as having been collected in Port Natal [Durban], which Cuming must have visited in his ship on one of his collecting voyages (see his biography). The objects may have come from a wider region, and they have been recorded on the database as made in South Africa in the 1850s.
The last item may not belong with the rest of the collection, and was probably made and collected in Asia.
