- Curator's comments
- There are two conflicting slips for this cloth. One attributes it to Madagascar; the second (which is the earlier slip) to the Caroline Islands. By analogy with other early Madagascan cloths in the BM collection (eg.Af.4022), the Caroline attribution seems to be incorrect.

- Christy numbers 4677 to 4806 were given to the BM by the Lords of the Admiralty in 1855 on the closure of the naval Haslar Hospital (qv) in Gosport. There is no record of who gave it to the hospital, or where it had come from.
