- Curator's comments
- Af.2218 and 2219 belong together and are recorded as 'Models of a Kafir man and woman' and 'Models of Bosjesman and woman'.
The slip records that "The figures are made of leater by the natives, the skins appear to be that of the jerboa. They were sent from Graham's Town, South Africa, by Captain Tupper's uncle, Captain C J Selwyn, RE, commanding the Royal Engineers in that Colony in 1838." Captain A C Tupper gave them to the BM in 1866. Both figures were originally housed in a glass case (now missing).
