- Curator's comments
- Overskirt for ceremonial occasions.
The vendor suggested that this cloth was produced by Kotokoli people in northern Togo but probably woven by Djugu women (or neighbouring group) in northern Republic of Benin on upright loom. See the comment on an indigo-dyed example in this collection, 2018,2036.273.
A very similar example in white cotton is illustrated by Michèle Coquet, ‘Textiles Africains’, 1998 p.150 (as Djugu, Benin).
