- Curator's comments
- The Museum commissioned Marzan to create a fan following a research trip he made to study Hawaiian collections here in 2017. During that visit, Marzan examined the historic fans collected on early European voyages to Hawaii and used those as inspiration for his creation. On his website, he describes his vision for his work as bridging 'the traditions of the past with the innovations of the present, creating a dialogue within his work that speaks to the evolutionary continuity of culture'.
