- Found unregistered in the Pictorial Store January 2017 with material from the collection of Joseph Barnard Davis. Likely acquired by A W Franks at the sale of Davis's estate in 1883.
Joseph Barnard Davis’s collection was dispersed both before and after his death in 1881. In 1879 he sold his large collection of skeletal material to the Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons. His collection of artefacts was auctioned on 19 January 1883 and his library on 30 January 1883 and subsequent days by Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge in London. A.W. Franks bought some artefacts directly from the auction of artefacts. A Piccadilly book-dealer, Bernard Quaritch, bought many books and associated material, many of which were resold at higher prices in February 1883. Quaritch also acted as a buyer for A W Franks at the sale.
