- The photograph shows a dune in the Ubari erg (sand sea), a large region of dunes in the eastern border of Libya, north to the Messak plateau. The Ubari sand is near some of the three most important rock art areas in Libya –the Messak plateau, and the Acacus and Tassili Mountains (the later mostly in Algeria).
