These engravings are located at a roadside site in the Karoo in the Northern Cape.
The Karoo is a semi-desert region covering around 150,000 square miles in South Africa’s Cape region. The extent of the Karoo is not precisely defined, and is best circumscribed by its topography, geology, vegetation and climate, of low rainfall and extremes of heat and cold. Millions of years ago this region hosted a well-preserved ecosystem which is now represented by many fossils.
