- Information provided by the Bishop Museum, March 2013:
During the exhibition E Ku Ana Ka Paia: Unification, Responsibility and the Ku Images, in Hawaii, 2010, three 'apu, coconut shell cups, filled with 'awa (Piper methysticum), a beverage often drunk during ceremonies, were presented to the three respective Ku images as offerings. The 'apu, made by cultural practitioner Sam Ka'ai were left at the base of each image for the duration of the exhibition. 'Awa residue is what is found at the base of each cup. The three cups now reside with the three institutions that care for the three images, the British Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Bishop Museum.
