Mounted in J. Barnard Davis's Galerie Anthropologique [2017,2016.1]. Accompanying letter in same folio. Envelope addressed to Doctor Joseph Barnard Davis MRCS, Shelton, Staffordshire, England, Angleterre, stamped Brest 1 Aout 61, from A. Le Roy de Méricourt.
An article by 'J.B.D.' in The Anthropological Review 4(12) Jan 1866:pp.47-61 titled 'The Skulls of the Inhabitants of the Caroline Islands' refers to the head depicted in this image as Broca's No. 48 and the head then described as being preserved at Brest, transmitted by Dr A Le Roy de Méricourt.
