Slide (colour); interior of a Wahgi men’s house with, at the far end, a sleeping platform. Above is a soot-encrusted firewood drying rack, laid across which some firewood is visible and, further down, a long-handled spade of the kind used for ditch-digging. Elderly women, such as Erip, seated bottom right, may also reside in men’s houses. Photograph taken December 22nd 1980, Wahgi Valley, Papua New Guinea.
